HOW TO GROW FRUIT SEEDS
Growing: Indoors/outdoors. For temperate climates, sow directly outside when the danger of last frost is gone and soil temp has reached 55-60F (12-15C). For speeding up the germination, place the seeds on a moist paper towel, put it inside the zip lock bag and keep in a warm, dark location from a few days up to a week. During this period check regularly to make sure the towel isn't dried and moist, if needed. Once seeds germinate, transfer to their growing place. Note that inconsistent moisture causes the odd shape or poor-tasting fruits. If plant suddenly wilts and don't recover, means the vine has been infected with bacterial wilt, spread by cucumber beetles. Also, keep an eye for squash bugs, slugs, aphids and powdery mildew.
Soil: Light, fertile, well drained soil rich in organic matter (optimum pH 6-6.8).
Sowing depth: Plant the seeds no deeper than 1in (2.54cm).
Spacing: 6in (15cm) apart, giving the plants a plenty of room.
Light: Bright, sunny location with plenty of sunlight.
Watering: Regular watering to keep the soil moist (not soggy!).
Fertilizing: Light application of fertilizer mixed in at planting time will encourage strong root growth.
